Unpack bare roots or rhizomes on arrival and plant them within a week. Until then, keep them somewhere cool and ensure the roots remain slightly moist, never wet.

Hemerocallis
'Double Pink Zephyr'
daylily
This is a brand-new Hemerocallis 'Double Pink Zephyr' cultivar, and one you won’t often find offered for sale. It’s a real beauty, too. Long, sleek buds in a lovely cream shade open out to semi-double flowers, packed with curved, and slightly ruffled petals. Its midsummer blooms are around 10cm across, and their overall shade is that of a rich salmon-pink, with the outer petals tending to be marginally lighter. The pink colouring of Hemerocallis 'Double Pink Zephyr' then blends into the centre of the flower, which is a deep golden yellow. The whole colour combination of cream, salmon-pink and golden yellow is stunning—particularly bearing in mind that the blooms come in abundance. Daylily 'Double Pink Zephyr' also has arching, mid-green, sword-shaped leaves.
This dwarf hardy perennial, at just around 45cm in height, making it ideal for edging paths, beautifying rock gardens, or for growing in patio containers, either in full sun or part-shade. Daylilies are so-named because each flower lasts for just one day. However, the blooms come in profusion, on multiple flower spikes, and in sequence, so there is a glorious continuous display for several weeks.

Remove the packaging straight away, check the compost and water thoroughly if dry. Check the plant’s hardiness before placing it outdoors. Plant into a border or permanent container within a month, choosing the position recommended for the variety. Keep the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil, firm gently and water well.
Soak the roots in water for three to six hours immediately before planting. Keep any crown, buds or emerging shoots above the water where possible.
Pot most bare roots into 15–20cm pots filled with peat-free multipurpose compost. Large or depth-sensitive roots, including peonies, are often best planted directly into borders.
Arrange the roots naturally without bending them. Cover the roots completely, positioning the crown and buds at the depth recommended for that particular perennial.
Keep pots in a sheltered outdoor position and water whenever the compost begins to dry. Grow on until roots hold the compost together when lifted from the pot.
Plant into a suitable border or permanent container once well rooted. Add a label and water regularly throughout the first growing season while the perennial establishes.
