Description
Turn up the summer heat with the scorching-hot colours of Heliopsis 'Luna Roja'. Bursts of blooms in lava-like shades of orange and red are projected by black stalks like floating embers above satiny bronze-black foliage. This toasty summer display gets fired up in mid-summer and keeps up its hot-coals-colour-contrast into September. Unlike the weather sometimes, you can count on Heliopsis (or oxeye) to bring in some brightness!
Heliopsis 'Luna Roja' loves a sunny spot in a border, where it will eventually settle in and start to grow into a prolific clump. This hardy perennial doesn’t require frost protection over winter—once it's established, it's very low maintenance and will return for a summer showdown every year. Heliopsis helianthoides 'Luna Roja' sits happily in a hot colour border, or you can use it for contract amongst blue and purple flowered perennials, such as Veronica, Salvia or Verbena bonariensis.

Useful information
-
Soak the Heliopsis 'Luna Roja' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Oxeye" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
