'Dancing Ladies'

dancing ladies ginger

Globba 'Dancing Ladies' brings a touch of tropical theatre to the garden—graceful, golden and irresistibly elegant. Commonly known as the dancing ladies ginger, this delightful perennial earns its name from the way its flowers dangle and sway like a troupe of tiny ballerinas mid-performance. Each arching stem carries clusters of vivid yellow blooms that flutter charmingly above lush green foliage, creating a sense of gentle movement even on still days. Native to Southeast Asia, Globba 'Dancing Ladies' brings the exotic flair of a rainforest understory to shadier corners closer to home, where its bright tones illuminate the green.

Globba 'Dancing Ladies' thrives in warm, sheltered spots with moisture-retentive, well-drained soil—think the same conditions you’d give a pampered woodland plant that enjoys a little humidity. Flowering from mid to late summer, Globba 'Dancing Ladies' is particularly effective in pots on shaded patios or nestled among ferns and hostas, where its golden blooms can steal the spotlight. Once the show is over, the plant retreats underground for a quiet winter rest, ready to return when the curtain rises next year. For gardeners seeking something a bit out of the ordinary, Globba 'Dancing Ladies' offers both charm and intrigue—proof that elegance and resilience can waltz together quite beautifully.
