Description
'Rosy Jane' is an outstanding Gaura. Launched at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2008, it was regarded as one of the first real colour breakthroughs, and firmly placed Gauras in the minds of home gardeners. Put simply, her flowers are white, with a pink edge to the petals. But look closer and you will see a graceful perennial, with some of its flowers having a thin pink picotee edge, while on others, pink covers half the flower. The delicate-looking blooms of Gaura lindheimeri 'Rosy Jane' resemble tropical butterflies floating on tall stems!
Gaura 'Rosy Jane' has a long flowering season, from early summer to well into autumn: the flowers just keep on coming. Lindheimer's beeblossom plants form a bushy perennial, between 60-90cm in height, making it ideal for the front or middle of a border, as well as in patio containers. It flowers best when grown in full sun.
And being perennial, it comes back year after year. After three or four years, in spring, you can divide large plants. In late winter each year, cut back Gaura lindheimeri 'Rosy Jane' to tidy her up, but resist the temptation to cut back immediately after flowering, as she also produces beautiful autumn tints!

Useful information
-
Soak the Gaura 'Rosy Jane' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Lindheimer's beeblossom" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
