Description
With Eupatorium 'Chocolate', you can turn a partially shaded area with tricky clay soil into a space for lush bronze foliage and illuminating white blooms. Thriving in conditions which many other plants find challenging, Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate', commonly known as white snakeroot, grows into a bushy plant with a long season of foliage interest, plus a long-lasting display of frothy white flowers which provide a highlighting contrast from June to September.
Once established, Eupatorium 'Chocolate' can grow up to 1.2m tall and just as wide, all in the space of one growing season. In autumn, the stems can be cut right back down to ground level and the plant will remain dormant for winter. Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate's fully winter hardy and won’t require winter protection—in spring you can look forward to the appearance of fresh new foliage. Choose a position in partial shade and poorly-drained soil, such as clay, to enjoy this white snakeroot plant at its best.
Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate' is also known as Ageratina altissima 'Chocolate'.

Useful information
-
Soak the Eupatorium 'Chocolate' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "White snakeroot" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
