Description
Shady areas, get ready to glow with the daintiest of amber-gold highlights—ethereal sweetheart Epimedium 'Amber Queen' is a real darling which offers glimmering wispy sprays of delicate nodding blooms to make the most of what could otherwise be a gloomy spot. But the flowers only tell half the story, while they’re a joy to look out for in the spring, for the rest of the year Epimedium 'Amber Queen' forms a luxuriant ground cover of green upward-facing heart-shaped leaves which emerge with a lovely ruby hue in spring!
Despite its dainty looks, this bonny beauty is actually quite a toughie, doing best in a shaded area and not at all perturbed by what winter may bring. Epimedium 'Amber Queen's favourite place to grow is in a woodland area with dappled shade and a rich, moist soil. Over the years it will spread to form a gorgeous green groundcover which acts as an effective weed suppressant!
Legend has it that the common name horny goat weed originated from a Chinese goat herder who noticed increased sexual activity in his goats after they consumed Epimedium plants.

Useful information
-
Soak your Epimedium 'Amber Queen' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Bishop's hat" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
