Description
Make a cool impact in your summer borders with a flurry of snowball blooms! The globe-shaped flowerheads of Echinops 'Arctic Glow' have a frosted appearance due to the smattering of icy-white fractal-like flowers which cover the flowerhead. These silvery globes stand on rigid, tall and well-branched stems that are felted in a contrasting covering of chestnut-brown hairs. The bristly, thistle-like foliage of Echinops 'Arctic Glow' forms a dense clump of grey-green leaves with cobwebbed undersides that make this spiny perennial resistant to rabbits and deer.
Standing ghostly in borders on moonlit nights, this white globe thistle attracts moths to a feast of nectar. It’s just as popular with daytime pollinators, providing a 24-hour diner for bees and butterflies! Echinops sphaerocephalus 'Arctic Glow' will flourish in sunny spots on light, free draining soil; a useful trait for coastal cottage gardens or Mediterranean planting schemes where the structural seedheads last long after the flowers fade. Not surprisingly, Echinops 'Arctic Glow' makes superb cut flowers too! Reliable and fuss-free, this hardy variety mingles beautifully with ornamental grasses, bright blue or purple salvias and silver-leaved perennials for a wild, informal look.

Useful information
-
Soak your Echinops 'Arctic Glow' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Globe thistle" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
