Description
Echinaceas are a highly popular group of perennial plants, because they are easy to grow, and very hardy. Echinacea 'Milkshake' is one of the most eye-catching cultivars. It produces fully double, creamy white pompon-like blooms, and each flower has a deep, golden orange centre. Unlike many flowering plants, these long-lasting blooms do not fade with age, making them ideal for cutting and indoor vase display. The plants are well-branched, and do not require staking outdoors. The dark green leaves have a coating of stiff hairs, which helpfully prevent them from being eaten by the usual range of garden pests!
Introduce Echinacea purpurea 'Milkshake' to your garden, and you will soon find bees, butterflies and other nectar-loving insects attracted to your plants. Then, towards the end of autumn, seed-loving birds will take advantage of the faded stems. You can see why these plants are so appealing to gardeners.
