Flowering from late spring, Dutch Iris is the perfect plant for injecting a fresh pop of colour to borders just as spring flowers are starting to fade and before the summer garden really fires into action. A perennial flowerer with upright stems reaching a height of around 50cm, plant them in groups and you’ll get a lovely, hearty display which just gets better every year. Prized by flower arrangers for their exquisite flower form and outstanding vase life, it’s best to plant plenty because you just won’t be able to resist snipping a bunch to display in your home!

Check whether your varieties prefer sun or shade, then choose a sheltered spot with well-drained soil. Most spring bulbs also grow well in containers.

Water after planting if the soil is dry. Keep containers lightly moist but never waterlogged. After flowering, allow foliage to yellow naturally before removing it.
