Description

Every garden needs a stand-out, elegant shrub like Deutzia 'Raspberry Sundae', but while space for shrubs can be an issue, this new compact variety of Deutzia is very accommodating. Growing to a height of around 1m with a nice, bushy habit, not only can it slot into smaller borders where it won’t grow too big or dominate its neighbours, it can also fit nicely into a large container, creating a fabulous focal point on a terrace, patio or balcony. With its beautiful form of arching branches growing out a neat bushy centre, dripping with sugary pink and white flowers in late spring and early summer, Deutzia 'Raspberry Sundae' fills that infamous May gap with colour, after the spring have gone over but before summer plants really get going.

Deutzia 'Raspberry Sundae' is perfectly happy in sun or in partial shade, and tolerates most garden soils as long as they don’t dry out. This makes it an excellent plant for bringing colour to areas of dappled shade or partly-shaded areas of the garden that need a late spring and early summer lift. Once established, its branches are simply laden with flowers during this period, in a soft shade of white brushed with raspberry pink, delicately scented and attractive to pollinators. The apple-green leaves give it a fresh look throughout the growing season, so it continues to look good even after the flower show is over. Deutzia 'Raspberry Sundae' grows reliably from bare roots. Of course shrubs take some time to reach full size, but as a long-living, lasting plant which barely requires any attention, it’s well worth getting one started this year.
