Unpack bare roots or rhizomes on arrival and plant them within a week. Until then, keep them somewhere cool and ensure the roots remain slightly moist, never wet.
'Dream Sensation'
larkspur
Delphinium 'Dream Sensation' lives up to its name, bringing a touch of theatrical grandeur to the garden without overstepping into fussiness. Rising elegantly above a mound of finely cut, fresh green leaves, its sturdy stems carry an array of frilly, double blooms in rich violet-blue tones. Each flower is finished with a contrasting heart of soft greenish cream, giving the spires a layered, painterly quality that changes subtly with the shifting light. Few plants manage to combine structure and romance quite so effortlessly, and Delphinium 'Dream Sensation' makes itself at home in borders where height, depth, and a touch of drama are required.
Beyond the sheer impact of its colour, Delphinium 'Dream Sensation' has a softness that works beautifully alongside other perennials. The ruffled texture of its blooms seems almost cloud-like from a distance, while up close the intricate details reveal themselves as if painted by hand. Perfect for a midsummer flourish, larkspur 'Dream Sensation' anchors mixed plantings with confidence, while also holding its own as a statement feature. Cut for arrangements, the tall stems bring indoor displays a note of elegance and refinement. With its combination of poise and exuberance, Delphinium 'Dream Sensation' (Highlander Series) is more than just a fleeting highlight — it’s a season-defining presence that makes gardens feel richer, fuller, and delightfully more alive.

Remove the packaging straight away, check the compost and water thoroughly if dry. Check the plant’s hardiness before placing it outdoors. Plant into a border or permanent container within a month, choosing the position recommended for the variety. Keep the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil, firm gently and water well.
Soak the roots in water for three to six hours immediately before planting. Keep any crown, buds or emerging shoots above the water where possible.
Pot most bare roots into 15–20cm pots filled with peat-free multipurpose compost. Large or depth-sensitive roots, including peonies, are often best planted directly into borders.
Arrange the roots naturally without bending them. Cover the roots completely, positioning the crown and buds at the depth recommended for that particular perennial.
Keep pots in a sheltered outdoor position and water whenever the compost begins to dry. Grow on until roots hold the compost together when lifted from the pot.
Plant into a suitable border or permanent container once well rooted. Add a label and water regularly throughout the first growing season while the perennial establishes.
