Add contrast to your planting scheme with this bronze delight, Dahlia 'HS Date'. It’s part of the popular HS series of dahlias, which stands for 'Happy Single', and this one is undeniably both! Single daisy-like blooms in cheerful tangerine tones jostle attractively above striking bronze-black foliage. There’s a lovely colour contrast between the peachy outer edges of the petals meeting watermelon-red at the base, and radiating out from a chocolate-coloured disc with golden stamens. Dahlia 'HS Date' is easy to care for and low maintenance, and it rarely needs staking thanks to its compact stature.
Dahlia 'Happy Single Date' grows to around 60cm tall and looks great edging paths and patios, or mingled with other garden plants in a flower-filled border. Consider also combining with other dahlias in the HS Dahlia series, such as 'HS Romeo' or 'HS Flame' for some eye-catching contrasts. All of these are perfect for containers too, so it’s possible to create fabulous ready-made summer and autumn interest by just potting up some of these tubers and placing them together in a group. They love sunshine, and will reward you with long-season flowers. And like all single dahlias, the bees and butterflies love Dahlia 'HS Date' too.
