Its flowers are a vibrant magenta, with a tousled ring of narrow, white-streaked petals around a golden-yellow centre. We adore Dahlia 'Hootenanny Swan Island' as it provides all the beauty of a single-flowered cultivar with its own subtle dash of cultivated glamour. The velvety red tones work beautifully alongside other rich, jewel-like colours such as purples and oranges.
For the most impressive results, we recommend planting your 'Hootenanny Swan Island' dahlias in generous groups of five or more. To bulk up your collection, why not try taking cuttings? Using the new shoots in early spring, simply snip a few off once they are about 8cm tall and insert in a pot of free-draining compost. Given warmth, light, and regular misting, roots should appear out of the bottom of the pot within a few weeks.
