Cornus 'Miracle'

Master the art of low-maintenance beauty in your garden with marvellous specimens like Cornus 'Miracle'. Once this special shrub, also known as dogwood, is settled, there’s very little you’ll need to do to enjoy colour throughout the year from it. In spring it has pink-tinged leaves with a bright pink margin. In summer, Cornus 'Miracle' has green leaves with a white margin. In autumn the leaves turn to a dusky mauve-pink. It doesn’t stop there… for winter it drops its leaves to reveal bright reddish-pink stems and branches. In frost, snow or against a backdrop of evergreen foliage, these red twiggy branches really stand out. That’s year-round interest with very little effort - what a treasure!

Dogwoods like Cornus alba 'Miracle' are very easy to get started, they easily take root and start to grow in most good soils, or you can start it in pot if your soil is poor or a little challenging. Grow this shrub in a sunny position or patial shade, it is essential to water it frequently in its first year but after that it requires very little attention. Prune Cornus 'Miracle' back by a third or remove the oldest half of the stems entirely in spring each year to encourage new stem growth from the base. It is the young wood which has the lovely colour. This hardy shrub can grow to around 2m tall once fully established, if left unpruned, but it’s happy to take a hard prune every other year to keep it compact if needed.
