Description
Make sure your summer evenings are as balmy as can be, by planting with a generous patch of gloriously dusky Coreopsis 'Solar Fancy'. This cheery perennial, commonly known as Tickseed, is a shining star among Coreopsis, featuring extra fancy blooms and impressively enduring flowering time. There’s a real cottage-garden charm and slight vintage vibe about the simplicity and colouring of these daisy-like blooms. Playfully jagged petal edges give the display a relaxed and informal appearance, and the ruby-red and pale butter yellow bicolour is calmingly muted. The adorable button centre of each Coreopsis 'Solar Fancy' flower is nectar rich, drawing in bees, butterflies and other hardworking pollinators.
Unlike the rangy habit of their wild relative tickseed, Coreopsis grandiflora 'Solar Fancy' has been bred with home gardening in mind—a dense bushy habit, larger blooms and strong upright stems which don’t tend to droop or lean. A light shearing after the first flush ensures this robust hardy perennial will continue flowering from June to early autumn. With improved disease resistance and tolerance to drought and heat, this tough little Coreopsis 'Solar Fancy' works hard to earn its place in sunny borders with free-draining or sandy soil.

Useful information
-
Soak your Coreopsis 'Solar Fancy' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Tickseed" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
