Description
A classic woodland beauty with a delightful twist, Convallaria 'Prolificans', also known as double lily of the valley, takes everything we love about its traditional counterpart and doubles it—literally. Instead of the usual single bells, this variety produces elegant, multi-petalled, frilly white blooms that cluster along arching stems, filling the air with their famously sweet fragrance. Blooming in late spring, Convallaria 'Prolificans' is perfect for adding a touch of nostalgia and charm to shaded borders, woodland gardens, or even beneath trees where few other plants dare to thrive. Its lush green foliage remains fresh throughout the season, providing a handsome backdrop even when the flowers have faded.
Highly resilient and delightfully low-maintenance, Convallaria 'Prolificans' spreads gradually to form dense, scented carpets of delicate beauty—ideal for naturalising in the garden. Though dainty in appearance, this double-flowering lily of the valley is surprisingly tough, tolerating a range of soils and requiring very little attention once established. Whether used for ground cover, cut flowers, or simply as a fragrant feature in a quiet corner of the garden, Convallaria 'Prolificans' is a little plant with a big presence. Also known botanically as Convallaria majalis 'Prolificans', it’s a charming and robust addition to any shaded planting scheme.

Useful information
-
Soak your Convallaria 'Prolificans' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Double lily of the valley" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
