Plant Colocasia bulbs in individual pots during spring. Keep them in a bright place at a consistent temperature of 17–25°C while they wake from dormancy.
'Moccachino'
elephant ears
Nature has a rather artistic way with colour, and Colocasia 'Moccachino' is a wonderful example. Its magnificent, heart-shaped leaves are a rich, glossy emerald green, dramatically traced with vivid pink veins that radiate from the centre like brushstrokes across a canvas. Hints of golden yellow follow the delicate veining, creating an extraordinary contrast against the darker foliage. As the leaves mature, their colouring becomes increasingly intense, while gently rippled edges and deep, almost black stems add further character. Each enormous leaf is a little work of art in its own right, bringing colour and texture to the garden without a single flower in sight. Colocasia 'Moccachino' is particularly striking alongside lime-green foliage, dark purple cannas or the softly divided leaves of ornamental ferns.
Originally developed in Thailand, Colocasia 'Moccachino' has all the lush, architectural appeal of a tropical rainforest plant. Its vigorous growth and generous foliage make it an exciting choice for sheltered summer borders and spacious patio containers, where those remarkable leaves can be admired up close. Give Colocasia 'Moccachino' a warm position in sun or partial shade, with rich, moisture-retentive soil and regular watering throughout the growing season. In the UK, winter protection is advisable, as prolonged cold and wet conditions can damage the plant. Combine it with other exotic foliage plants for a wonderfully layered, tropical atmosphere, or let it take centre stage in a large decorative pot. With its vibrant pink veining and beautifully polished leaves, Colocasia 'Moccachino' is an unforgettable addition to any adventurous planting scheme.

Plant profile
Position each bulb with the papery rings facing upwards. Leave the top level with, or just visible above, the compost surface.
Water sparingly until shoots emerge, as dormant bulbs may rot in overly wet compost. Once growing strongly, keep the compost reliably moist.
After the risk of frost has passed and the weather is consistently warm, move plants outdoors. Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position sheltered from strong winds.
Plant into rich, moisture-retentive soil, spacing plants 25–35cm apart. For containers, choose a sturdy pot around 30–40cm wide and fill it with peat-free multipurpose compost.
Water generously throughout summer, particularly during warm, dry spells. In autumn, move pots under cover or lift the bulbs and store them somewhere cool, dry and frost-free.
