Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
There's an art to creating harmonious planting schemes, selecting tulip varieties which flower in unison and that also complement each other in terms of colour, height and flower shape. If you’re looking for inspiration, try this ready-made tulip combo, comprising ever-popular tulips 'Queen of Night' and 'Apricot Foxx'. Both flowers have the classic cup-shaped single bloom, sitting on tall, sturdy stems and providing a heavenly night and day contrast, bringing together deep purple blooms which are almost as black as night with a glowing sunrise yellow and apricot.
During April and May, you can expect an effortlessly sensational display from this perfect mix: Tulip collection 'Night & Day'. Tulip 'Queen of Night' and Tulip 'Apricot Foxx' are well-known and popular varieties, easy to grow and reliable. Simply plant the bulbs together in big pots or large groups in the border in autumn and wait for the show to begin the following spring! These classic tulips are an absolute must for use as cut flowers—it’s a good idea to grow plenty because you simply won’t be able to resist snipping some stems to create a bunch or two of these charmers!

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
