Description
It’s easy to imagine how wonderful these glistening flowers will look, gleaming in the spring sunshine in virtually any spot in the garden. These petite little stars will create a beautiful and wonderfully easy snowy carpet of blooms under trees, in borders, rockeries or patio containers. In fact, they’re really not fussy about where they go and, because they’re small, you don’t need to have a big space for large drifts of them, you can fit Chionodoxa luciliae 'Alba' (White) into any little nook or cranny.
When it comes to planting styles, you really can’t go far wrong with a variety like this. White flowers look great with everything and anything, whether that’s underplanting trees, shrubberies and architectural foliage plants, or mixed with colourful spring bulbs like crocuses and narcissi. Plus, chionodoxa is very easy to grow, so even if you’re not green fingered, you can achieve a simple but effective display with the minimum of effort or gardening know-how. Simply dig a shallow hole in autumn and throw a small handful of these small bulbs into it before covering over, and that’s really all there is to it. Chionodoxa luciliae 'Alba's cheery little flowers will pop up the following spring, then again every year after that, gradually naturalising to form bigger and more impressive groups each time.
