Description

Get set for a tropical treat with magnificent and brand new Canna 'Monique'! Cannas are known for their long-lasting summer interest, stately prowess and all round leafy good looks. An upright habit enables you to make a big statement with them in a narrow space or pack them in tight to create a fabulously exotic jungle style display. The foliage is inarguably beautiful and provides you with that much-desired summer long interest through all stages of growth. The icing on the cake is in late summer when each plant tops itself with a fresh burst large salmon pink blooms.

What better way to make a contrast in your planting schemes that with large leaves in streaked shades of copper, cerise and plum red? Make the most of your Canna 'Monique' by planting them next to green-leaved cannas or utilise them as a dulcet canvas for flowers in jewel shades.

Gracy tells: Look at the leaves!
"Canna leaves are bold and famous for their tropical look. Most Canna Lily cultivars have rich emerald-green leaves, but some (like Canna 'Monique') have distinctive variegated leaves!"

Useful information

    • Soak the Canna 'Monique' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting

    • Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors

    • Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).

    • Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
