Description
Slender, colourful and wonderfully architectural, Berberis 'Pink Pillar' is a barberry with the sort of vertical confidence that earns its place even in smaller gardens. This vigorous, fast-growing deciduous shrub has a strictly upright, narrow and columnar habit, giving instant structure to borders, entrances and contemporary planting schemes. In spring, Berberis 'Pink Pillar' sends out vivid pink new shoots that hold their colour for a remarkably long time, bringing freshness just when the garden is waking up. As the leaves mature, they develop an intricate tapestry of pink, white and red, as though each stem has been lightly brushed by hand.
By autumn, Berberis 'Pink Pillar' deepens into a rich, dark red, adding a final flourish before the leaves fall. Its narrow silhouette makes it especially useful where space is limited but impact is required, whether planted as a single accent, repeated in a rhythm through a mixed border or used to frame a path. Tough and undemanding once established, Berberis 'Pink Pillar' copes well in a sunny or lightly shaded position with well-drained soil. The colourful foliage pairs beautifully with grasses, dark evergreens and pale perennials, offering contrast without clutter. Distinctive, structural and just a little flamboyant, Berberis thunbergii 'Pink Pillar' proves that barberry can be both practical and rather glamorous.

Useful information
-
Soak your Berberis 'Pink Pillar' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Barberry" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
