Description
Armeria maritima, commonly known as thrift, is a compact and charming evergreen perennial that brings a burst of colour and texture to any garden. The stems rise up to 25cm, each bearing compact clusters of pink flowerheads that reach up to 2.5cm in width, creating a cheerful and neat display. Armeria maritima is perfect for adding a touch of vibrant colour to borders, rockeries, or even hanging baskets, where its low-growing habit shines.
What makes Armeria maritima such a gem is its resilience and versatility. This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and a sunny spot, making it ideal for coastal gardens, gravel paths, or those tricky dry spots where other plants might struggle. Armeria maritima is low-maintenance, offering you a long-lasting splash of pink through spring and early summer, and its evergreen foliage provides interest even when it's not in bloom. Whether you're looking to fill in gaps, create a soft border, or simply add a bit of colour to your outdoor space, Armeria maritima is a tough little plant that’s as pretty as it is practical.
Our Armeria maritima plants are supplied as a root ball with healthy growth, ensuring a strong start. They are carefully shipped in our unique cardboard box, designed to keep them safe and in top condition. This ensures they arrive healthy and ready to thrive in their new home.
Armeria maritima earned the name thrift for its frugal nature—flourishing in poor soils where fussier plants wouldn’t stand a chance!

Useful information
-
Soak your Armeria maritima roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Thrift" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
