Description
Anisodontea 'Cotton Candy Pink' is one of those delightfully generous plants that seems determined to keep the garden cheerful for as long as possible. A compact, upright sub-shrub from South Africa, it carries softly hairy stems and neat evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage, topped with a steady procession of dainty, hibiscus-like flowers in the prettiest blush pink. Bred for a tidier habit and improved resilience, Anisodontea capensis 'Cotton Candy Pink' reaches around 80cm tall and 60cm wide, making it an easy fit for patios, courtyards and smaller borders. The palest-flowered selection in the series, Anisodontea 'Cotton Candy Pink' slips beautifully into pastel planting schemes and brings a lovely softness to sunnier spaces.
Given warmth, sunshine and sharp drainage, Anisodontea 'Cotton Candy Pink' is refreshingly undemanding. In a mild, sheltered garden it may be grown in the ground, but it is particularly rewarding in containers, where it can be whisked indoors for winter with minimal fuss. Drought tolerant and forgiving of the occasional missed watering, Anisodontea 'Cotton Candy Pink' is an excellent choice for gardeners who like plenty of flowers without endless pampering. From summer well into autumn, and often far beyond in the right conditions, Anisodontea capensis 'Carnival Lights Cotton Candy Pink' produces a cloud of mallow-like blooms that belies its easy-going nature. For reliable colour, subtle charm and impressively low input, it is very hard to better.
Anisodontea is often called Cape mallow because its flowers resemble those of true mallows, though it comes from sunny South Africa.

Useful information
-
Soak the Anisodontea 'Cotton Candy Pink' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Cape mallow" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
