As with most Hippeastrum, despite being incredibly showy and impressive, Amaryllis 'Hercules' is incredibly easy to grow. Simply settle it into a snug-pot of compost in autumn, put it in a bright, warm room, water occasionally and wait. Amaryllis can flower at any point in winter, typically the warmer the room, the quicker it will start to grow. These top-size bulbs usually produce multiple stems in succession, meaning you can look forward to a vibrant display which continues for weeks.

Use peat-free multipurpose compost and position the bulb with its pointed end upwards. Leave the neck and upper third of the bulb above the compost.
Place the pot indoors in a warm, bright position away from direct heat. Turn it regularly as the stem grows to keep it straight.
Water lightly after planting, then sparingly until growth appears. Increase watering as the plant develops, keeping the compost lightly moist but never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, but retain the flower stalk until it yellows. Continue watering and feeding while the leaves remain green to replenish the bulb.
