Description
nclude this little spotlight, Alstroemeria 'Claressa', in your summer borders, gravel areas or pots and look forward to a long-lasting show of gleaming white blooms! It’s a compact, low-maintenance and extraordinarily pretty Peruvian lily which hugs the ground with its mound-like habit, gradually spreading to form a neat little clump wherever planted, in sun or partial shade. It has a classic, elegant feel to it, producing tons flowers once established that open up to reveal a dash of buttery yellow within, enlivened by just a smattering of freckles. The blooms of Alstroemeria 'Claressa' are perfectly complemented by interesting leaves, which are olive green lined with creamy margins. A dashing ensemble that’s going to get admiring glances! It gives generously in return for virtually no input from you, flowering all through summer and into autumn every year.
Alstroemeria 'Claressa' is a dwarf variety, growing into a dense and bushy plant, about 30cm high once fully grown, making it an excellent choice for pots, window boxes, the fronts of borders or along paths. If you have a narrow, dry and sunny border along the house, they would work really well there too. With their long flowering season, a grouping of several pots of Alstroemeria 'Claressa'’ would also make an easy and elegant way to frame an entrance or doorway. And while they have an air of tropical abundance about them, the great thing about Peruvian lilies is that they are perennial and hardy, able to withstand winter cold to around -10/-15 °C. Start these bare roots in pots to get them off to the best start before transferring them out into the garden once they’ve established some initial growth.

Useful information
-
Soak the Alstroemeria 'Claressa' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Dwarf Peruvian lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
