Description
Achillea ptarmica, commonly known as sneezewort, brings a light, naturalistic feel to borders and wild-style plantings. It’s not flashy, but it’s quietly beautiful—an understated classic with finely toothed, lance-shaped leaves in rich green tones that form a tidy, textured mound. When summer arrives, Achillea ptarmica sends up relaxed clusters of small white flowerheads, each with a soft, daisy-like charm that fits seamlessly into cottage gardens, wildlife plots or more contemporary schemes in need of a gentler moment.
Unfussy and reliable, Achillea ptarmica grows happily in partial or dappled shade and well-drained soil, where it brings texture, pollinator appeal, and a subtle softness to stronger planting companions. It’s equally at home in a relaxed perennial border or woven through a meadow-style mix, where its graceful habit and fresh colour can balance out bolder plants. Achillea ptarmica has been a favourite of gardeners for centuries, and it’s easy to see why—hardy, low maintenance, and useful in both the garden and vase. For those seeking a perennial with a natural poise and just enough wild character, Achillea ptarmica is well worth a spot. No need to fear the sneeze—this one’s more about quiet elegance than causing a fuss.
Our Achillea ptarmica plants are supplied as a root ball with healthy growth, ensuring a strong start. They are carefully shipped in our unique cardboard box, designed to keep them safe and in top condition. This ensures they arrive healthy and ready to thrive in their new home.
Achillea ptarmica is called sneezewort because its dried leaves were once used to tickle noses and trigger sneezes—on purpose!

Useful information
-
Soak your Achillea ptarmica roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Sneezewort" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
