Description
Muscari armeniacum, otherwise known as the grape hyacinth is a versatile garden plant with intensely blue blooms. These blue muscaris are often used to create rivers of colour all on its own, and the effect a mass of grape hyacinths creates is truly unforgettable—but you can get even more creative. Muscari armeniacum provides the perfect companion for tulips, and contrasts magnificently with daffodils—no wonder it’s one of spring’s favourite flowers. Grape hyacinths naturalise well in most UK gardens, settling in as perennials that return every year to be spiced up with showy blooms or enjoyed as a floral display on their own. Muscari armeniacum is the most common blue grape hyacinth.
The name Muscari comes from the Greek word moschos or the Latin word moschus. Both mean “musk”, which refers to the musky scent.
