Description
Phlox 'Green Lion' is a unique, compact Phlox cultivar, distinguished by its spectacular and unusual appearance. It grows up to 40cm in height. From July to October, thick, fluffy flower clusters appear on the tops of raised, leafy shoots. These flowerheads can be as much as 12.5cm tall. The stunning, moss-green to aquamarine colour of the flowers, and their unusual structure, catches the eye. Phlox 'Green Lion' is a totally unique phlox! Rather than having petals, these ‘flowers’ comprise masses of tiny, narrow, light green, pointed leaves that are densely concentrated on the shoots.
Phlox paniculata 'Green Lion' is most effective when planted in sunny borders or patio containers. And, being a hardy perennial, plants will come back year after year.
Don’t forget, too, that the flowers may be cut and taken indoors for a long-lasting vase arrangement. The green stems and flowerheads make a great foil for highly coloured flowers in a mixed arrangement.

Useful information
-
Soak the Phlox 'Green Lion' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
