Description
Most of us will recognise a Hosta from a mile off, but there is an increasing number of forms that look different and, even more interesting. Take Hosta 'Wiggles and Squiggles' for example. It’s a unique-looking plantain lily with thin, long, bright yellow leaves noted for their incredibly wavy edges. From a distance it could be a type of fern, or even an unusual grass, but one thing is for certain: this plant deserves a closer look!
At just 20-30cm in height, and double this in spread, Hosta 'Wiggles and Squiggles' has a low, wide habit that really highlights the wiggly edges to the leaves. In a shady spot the leaves are more chartreuse-green; for the best yellow colouring, plant Hosta 'Wiggles and Squiggles' where it receives morning sun and afternoon shade. In July and August, it produces lovely lavender flowers on stalks 60cm high.
Ideal for the front of a country garden border, or a town garden container (hostas do grow well in city environments where they are unaffected by air pollution), Hosta 'Wiggles and Squiggles' will be a great talking point.

Useful information
-
Soak the Hosta 'Wiggles and Squiggles' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Plantain lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
