Description
Find a shady spot for Hosta 'Patriot' and you’ll find it injects lively energy, texture and contrast into the space with its incredible boldly patterned foliage. Drop-shaped, upright leaves have their beautiful shape defined by a thick white margin surrounding the green flame-like blotch along the midrib. This feisty hosta will make quite the impression in your borders or containers. Hosta 'Patriot' is a very popular plantain lily and it’s easy to see why. But along with striking good-looks are other great credentials, including a very long season of interest with leaves which provide colour from spring though to autumn, Hosta 'Patriot' is very low maintenance, fully hardy and it grows back for an ever better show every year!
Planted en-masse or in a series of groups among other shade-loving plants like ferns, epimediums and astilbe, you can look forward to achieving a varied, lush and colourful shady paradise where you can keep cool and calm in the height of summer. There’s even more that Hosta 'Patriot' has to offer in June to July, when delicate, pale-lilac tubular flowers rise up majestically above the foliage, on tall, slender stems. These blooms are attractive to pollinators as an added bonus for wildlife. Give Hosta 'Patriot' time to mature – this perennial forms a clump over time and each year the clump will grow and produce more leaves and a denser display.

Useful information
-
Soak your Hosta 'Patriot' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Plantain lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
