Description
Plant Agapanthus 'Sea Breeze' and look forward to true flower bounty! Soft ocean-blue margins give way to pale throats—each flower fading to white as it opens fully, just like a sun-bleached sail catching the wind on the high seas. Whether you are concocting a blowsy border in a cottage garden or a sophisticated city scheme, these tall, graceful stems and neutral tones mean Agapanthus 'Sea Breeze' is a plant that works well in a sunny spot whether it’s by the sea or not.
Elegant Agapanthus 'Sea Breeze' performs best with maximum sunshine on tap, in a well-drained soil. They can take a season or two to settle in and begin flowering, as they prefer their roots to be tightly pot-bound. To speed things up a little, you can plant your roots into pots buried in the ground, or in patio containers. Once established they're drought tolerant which makes them perfect for dry gardens—though as with any bare-root perennials, just be sure to water them in well while the roots get settled.

Soak the Agapanthus 'Sea Breeze' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "African lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
