Description

The memories of childhood will flood back every time you look at a Begonia 'Fimbriata White' plant in full bloom. Balls of frilly petals will remind you of the crêpe paper flowers you used to make as a child, the pompoms that were a must at sporting events, or the fluffy clouds that fascinated you when you looked at the summer sky. These white flowers are truly a delight, looking as soft as paper and as crinkly and ruffled as a pompom!

Begonia 'Fimbriata White' will be there in abundance throughout the summer if you plant their tubers in pots and planters, or let them gather clouds of blooms in garden beds or borders.

Useful information

    • Begonia 'Fimbriata White' tubers are tender and require protection from frost. For best results, start them off in temporary pots in a greenhouse in March or April to give them a head start. They can then be transplanted outside in May.

    • Begonia tubers can also be planted directly outside into borders or containers in May.

    • When planting in containers, multipurpose compost is the ideal choice of growing medium.

    • Plant the Begonia 'Fimbriata White' tubers shallowly with the dipped side facing upwards—the top of the tuber should be around 1-2cm below the soil surface.

    • Space the tubers around 15-20cm apart from each other in a container display, or 20-30cm apart in borders.

    • Water-in thoroughly after planting and water regularly while in full growth. Don't allow them to sit in wet soil while still dormant.

Begonias in 1 minute

Plant your Begonia tubers in well-composted soil with good drainage in a light but shady area, out of the direct sun. Don't overwater, but don't let them get completely dry. Originally from warm sub-tropical areas, tuberous begonias require winter storage in cold areas.
