Description
Spook your friends with this dark character, Tacca chantrieri 'Black', also known as the black 'Bat Flower' plant! An extraordinary tropical plant with two big bracts which look like batwings, deepest purple flower clusters and weirdly long ‘whiskers’, it’s fair to say that it makes quite the talking point as a house plant. Throughout the year, the large glossy green foliage puts on an impressively lush display – the perfect unassuming houseplant. Come summer, Tacca chantrieri takes its moment to shine by putting out its cracking display of fascinating blooms.
Tacca chantrieri 'Black' are tropical understory plants, adapted to ground level rainforest conditions. Therefore, they prefer shade, humus-rich soil and loads of moisture. Grow them in your conservatory or a warm part of your home throughout the year, a room with high humidity levels would be ideal such as a kitchen or bathroom. Otherwise, you can keep them happy with regular misting. If you don’t want to keep these black flower plants indoors all year, they can be moved outside to a shaded, sheltered part of the garden for summer months.
