Description
Crocosmia 'Jackanapes' is one of the shorter types, ideal for the front of, or mid-way point, in a border. In high summer it produces a mass of branched flower spikes, each with numerous funnel-shaped blooms of bright yellow-orange, and deep orange-red on the reverse. Its ultimate flower-height is just 60cm, and even when it is a mature clump, after 2 or more years, it will only spread to around 40cm. A clump-forming perennial, which grows from corms, it produces upright, sword-shaped, mid- to dark green leaves!
Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora 'Jackanapes' make great cut flowers and, as they produce so many blooms, there are plenty for both the garden outdoors and the vase indoors. This large genus of plants has many garden-worthy varieties, with differing sizes, habits and colours. The name ‘Jackanapes’ describes this particular variety perfectly – a cheeky, precocious Crocosmia that is quite different from any others.
Crocosmia are hardy perennials and flower every year once established. After planting, they will flower from their second year onwards. In the first year they may produce foliage only.
