Description
Alan McMurtrie, from Toronto, Canada, has been breeding remarkable new varieties of Reticulata irises for many years, and they are becoming more widely available in the UK. Iris 'North Star' is one of his newest—and, we think, one of his best! It is very early flowering, from January onwards, and it is a beautiful hybrid. Its cream-ivory petals (or falls) have a broad, central yellow ridge, dotted with deep turquoise. Even better than the colour is its strong fragrance—truly exceptional!
Perfect for the front of a border, patio container, rockery or even simply in a pot in the greenhouse (or conservatory), this new dwarf iris will bring a fresh look to your garden (and home), and at the time of year when new growth is so welcome.
The beauty of reticulata irises, apart from their dwarf size and ease of growth, is that they come in a wide range of colours, often with multiple colours in a single flower. Iris reticulata 'North Star' is one of the latest varieties, and its unusual colouring is sure to be a talking point with your visitors.
