Ligularia, a member of the daisy family, is grown for foliage and flower colour, shape and form in the garden. Forms with large leaves give the garden a touch of the exotic, yet look wonderful next to the foliage of lacier plants. Although most Ligularia (commonly known as Leopard plant) have impressively lush foliage, they are not one-trick ponies—their vibrant flowers are impressive, too. They flower in summer through to autumn, depending on variety, and produce clusters of butterfly-attracting, yellow daisy blooms. There is a great deal of variety with the Ligularia genus, with large, tall and small plants, and a range of distinctive leaf shapes and striking floral variations. All, however, prefer a moist soil, as found in their native habitats along stream banks and other bodies of water. Ligularia looks good with Hosta, Iris and hardy ferns.
