Description
If you want something a little different, choose Heuchera 'Cappuccino', with its lovely ruffled, glossy leaves of chocolate-brown, each with a hint of bronze-purple. The undersides of the leaves are a rich, clear purple, giving a beautiful two-tone effect. It is one of the darkest forms available. The leaves are semi-evergreen to evergreen, so they even offer some much-needed interest to the garden in winter. And if this is not enough, sprays of pretty cream-white bell-shaped flowers (coral bells) appear on slender spikes in early summer!
Excellent in the border, for edging, or in tubs and mixed containers, Heuchera 'Cappuccino' is more sun-tolerant than many of the older varieties. As a dense-growing perennial, it comes back to provide rich, sumptuous colour year-after-year. H. Soak your Heuchera 'Cappuccino' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Coral bells" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
