Convallaria, or Lily-of-the-Valley, has a lot to offer. The multiple delicate white flowers that hang from each bright green stem like fancy bells, are not only beautiful, but fragrant, too. A Convallaria plant only reaches a height of about 15 to 20cm or 6 to 8 in and spreads easily once established. They make lovely cut flowers and will carry their sweet fragrance inside with them. Convallaria does best in well-drained, moist soil in partial shade - further than that it is not fussy. It makes a great ground cover and would provide a delightful skirt to shrubs, or add some contrast if your Convallaria pips are planted in among ferns. These May Lilies or May Bells flower from mid spring.
